It looks like Gylfi Sigurdsson won’t be joining Morgan Schneiderlin at Everton afterall, as the Icelandic midfielder has no intentions of leaving the Swans in the January transfer window.

Sigurdsson, who is purportedly worth £25 million on the transfer market, is “happy” to stay at Swansea and help fight for the club’s Premier League survival.

I hope the Daily Mirror’s reports are wrong, but it looks like they’re credible enough.

Good on the individual for not jumping ship the minute trouble arrives. However, his loyalty and resolute behaviour doesn’t help Everton, who would have loved to see him join an already improved midfield corps.

The brilliant midfielder has five goals and six assists in 20 league appearances so far this season. Sigurdsson has contributed to 48 percent of the Swans entire offensive output in the Premier League, further showcasing how important he is to the Welsh side.

Swans fans are enjoying a busy transfer window with new boss Paul Clement already making three signings. They should have a direct impact on Swansea’s Premier League survival hopes, which is one of the main reasons the midfielder has probably decided to stay at the Welsh club.

Luciano Narsingh arrived on Tuesday and Swansea announced the arrivals of Martin Olsson and Tom Carroll, both of whom could keep Swansea afloat in the top flight. It shows that Sigurdsson loves a fight and it also demonstrates his loyalty to an embattled club, both qualities rarely seen in the money-driven age we live in.

Those are the kind of qualities that suit perfectly at Goodison, which is why seeing Sigurdsson stay at Swansea is an even harder pill to swallow.

Next: High hopes for Everton's new-look midfield

I wish the maestro well but my intuition, and the fact that the Swans are the worst team in the Premier League, suggests he’ll be going down with the Swans’ sinking ship and looking for a transfer to greener pastures once again in June.

But who knows, he’s the kind of man who can make miracles happen. Keep praying, Gylfi. You’re going to need all the help you can get.
