As the rumours begin to bubble, Everton are linked with more players than ever after being taken over and injected with money by Farhad Moshiri. One young prospect that has been linked with a move to the blue half of Merseyside since early this season, is young English centreback, Keane.

Michael Keane is a player who has received a lot of the limelight this season, after having a stellar season playing under Sean Dyche in a highly organised Burnley. In a team full of talent, Keane has undeniably been the standout player for Burnley, who are currently sitting on 36 points, 5 points clear of relegation.

Keane is being considered by many for ‘Premier League team of the season’, and naturally you would expect someone so young to move from a bottom 10 club to a top 10, sooner rather than later. Jamie Carragher has some insightful words on Keane:

"“There’s talk of Everton going for him. I think that’d be perfect. Yes, you want to win trophies but the main thing is to play week in, week out.”“He’s obviously got the stature, he can play, he’s athletic, he’s aggressive. They made their mind up on Keane at 21, and that’s early.”“I just think he would still be seen as the lad who came through at Old Trafford, whereas, if he goes somewhere for £15m to £20m, he’s the big signing.”Source"

I think the last sentence is the most important. Would Keane come in and be the main man at Everton? I would love to see him at Everton, but I am of the minority that I do not think Keane should come in and become the heart of the Everton defense. In Williams we have a leader, in Jags we have a captain, so if he should play with either of our veterans then I don’t see him ‘stealing the show’ or anything.

For me, one brilliant season is not enough for Keane to come in and be given that much, I’ve watched us play with a senior centreback aged 21 last season and found it uncomfortable, but Everton are in a much better position now, and I expect more.
Despite this, I think Keane would be an excellent fit at Everton. He fits the character mould we would want in a back 4, and at the very least he would be a great investment at £20 million, I hope we sign him early on and get him embedded into our starting 11.

Up the Ev.
