It now looks as though Everton have lost out on Netherlands forward Arnaut Danjuma as the Villarreal forward is apparently set to sign for Tottenham instead.

The bad news just never seems to end for Everton supporters with this coming just a day after manager Frank Lampard was sacked.

This afternoon it’s become clear that Danjuma, a player that Toffees’ fans had thought the club was on the verge of signing, is now likely to go to North London as Spurs’ hijack the move.

Reports claim that the Dutchman has now decided to opt for Tottenham because of Lampard’s sacking. this comes after he had supposedly been keen to have a say in who was manager of the Blues’ during negotiations.

Other stories also say that in fact Danjuma never formally agreed to join Everton, even though it seemed he had had a medical at the club only a few days ago.

Given all this confusion and uncertainty, once again the quesiton is why haven’t the club got this deal over the line in time?

The Blues’ desperately need attacking reinforcements as soon as possible and Danjuma’s decision is a serious blow to deal with.

Having him and at least one or two more decent forwards in the squad by the end of the transfer window might have given Evertonians some hope their club could avoid relegation.

As it is time is slipping away for the Toffees’ to get fresh players in and this is obviously going to be made even harder because of Lampard’s departure.

The club have to focus time and energy on finding a replacement as soon as possible while also continuing to scour the market for new talent.

This is a perfect storm of chaos and instability, the result of years of failure and ineptitude, which is now costing the club and it’s loyal, long-suffering supporters so much.

There are a number of names being bandied about as the possible new Everton manager with Marcelo Bielsa appearing to be the number one candidate.

Whoever the club decide on as Lampard’s replacement, they have to move quickly becuase there is only just over a week before the window closes and after Danjuma’s switch to Spurs’ the need for offensive reinforcements is even more urgent.
