Unsettled and unhappy with the team’s progress, Everton’s Kevin Mirallas looks as though he could be on his way out the Goodison Park exit. As to whether that will be very soon or next summer, however, remains to be seen.

One of Roberto Martinez’s prized assets, his value to the club at this moment in time sees him as one of their best players and he’s one of their biggest creative forces, too. Arguably alongside Romelu Lukaku, Ross Barkley, Muhamed Besic and Seamus Coleman, he completes the spine of the team.

Having only recently returned from injury, he’s helped add an extra bite to their attack, and in particular he’s given them a morale boost, too because the club really hasn’t been having the best of seasons – at least not on the domestic front.

With just one win from their last five Premier League games, the difference in performance between this season and last is astonishing. And when you compare that to how well they’ve been doing in the Europa League, it really is a head-scratching mystery.

And although there is still plenty of time for The Toffees to turn things around, it’s clear that Mirallas is getting increasingly patient, and, following his recent outburst where he claimed he was borderline fed-up with the club’s lack of form, it’s no surprise to see a few clubs lining up to snatch his services.

And his recent complaints, as reported by the Mirror, could well be an insight into a strained relationship between player and club:

"“I’ve made no secret of the fact that I want to play in the Champions League. Ideally I will do so with Everton. But if that doesn’t appear possible we will have to look at the situation. Let’s see how Everton react if we fail to qualify, and the same applies to myself. Discussions about a new contract have been going on since the summer. It is normal for them to take time.”"

And, according to The Express, both Tottenham Hotspur and Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool are eyeing up a move to acquire the Belgium international.

No doubt, passionate fans would never forgive him should he join forces with The Reds, and it’s easy to see why – something that highlights just how difficult it is for clubs like Everton to keep hold of their best players in today’s market; it really is a sad indictment of the game. Doing their best to continue to encourage growth and understanding in their team, they appear defenceless on the open market.

Of course, it’s not yet known whether the two clubs intend to swoop come January or if they’ll wait until the summer, but one thing is clear, Mirallas’ annoyance has highlighted just how well thought of he is.

Having scored eight league goals last season, he has yet to reach those heights, but the completion of the hectic Christmas schedule could well see a revitalised player, especially if he intends to keep attracting admiring glances, but while they could probably get in excess of £25 million for him, they won’t want to sell to one of their direct competitors for a European spot.

One way for the “School Of Science” to throw cold water on this rumour would be to string together a positive series of results between now and the New Year. Because if they can prove to the influential midfielder just how good they really are he might stick around and give them one last chance to get into the Champions League.

Maximum points from their next trio of matches would certainly be one place to start doing just that.

Do you think Mirallas will leave Everton?
