Everton haven’t made much of a splash in the January transfer window as yet, but it looks as though they might be close to capturing Serbian starlet Stefan Lukic in the coming days.

Currently plying his trade with Partizan Belgrade’s youth set-up in the Serbian SuperLiga, the 18-year-old is apparently eyeing up a move before the January transfer window shuts, but would not be expected to feature for The Toffees until next season at least if he was to secure a deal.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo (h/t Toffeeweb.com) the teenage sensation is likely to spend a season on loan with Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivise.

Information on the young midfielder is relatively scarce, but Everton fans will be happy to know he does seem to have an array of talents having bagged six goals and as many as 20 assists for the Serbian club.

News of a signing of his apparent calibre would certainly signal good things for next season.

Looking comfortable with the ball at his feet, as well as possessing a real eye for goal, the Partizan youth team player could well turn out to be one of the buys of the season that is, if his youtube video is anything to go by.

Having not acquired a berth in the Crno-Beli‘s first-team squad, he would have quite a bit of developing yet to go through before he could be considered good enough for the pacey, rough and tumble atmosphere of the Premier League.

However, if he can put his head down, work hard and make the most of his potential loan spell in The Netherlands, Lukic could well see himself flourish into a real star given time.

However, there are conflicting stories coming out suggesting that his move might not go through at all.

The Liverpool Echo, going back on their initial news story, suggested that Roberto Martinez is not interested in signing the player.

Whether this is as a result of a breakdown in transfer talks or other circumstances is not yet clear.

Following reports from TalkSport last month that Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa were also interested in him, a hefty  counter-offer from one of those clubs might have put The Blues out of the running. More information in the coming days should see clarification on the matter.

Regardless of the outcome, the buzz surrounding Everton’s apparent interest in him underlines just how eager the fans are to see Martinez strengthen his squad. With rivals closing in on their own deals, the lack of success and movement from the Blues has only served to heighten the expectancy.

Do you think Everton will sign Lukic?
