Everton vs Watford Post Match Ratings

Joel Robles – 7

Joel did well all game to stop Watford from scoring and also did well in distributing the ball. He couldn’t really have done much to stop the deflection goal off a corner late in the first half, and was great defending most set pieces throughout the game. He made a great diving stop late in the game off a deflection that surely would have been a goal.

Seamus Coleman – 7

Coleman was able to clear danger when asked of him and was impactful going forward. He made some great penetrating runs that set up great chances and also covered his area well on defense.

Phil Jagielka – 6

Jagielka was partly responsible for the goal conceded before half as he lost his man in the traffic who went on to score the goal. Overall on the day he was decent, not his best.

John Stones – 6

Stones made some great tackles on the day, most notably when he stopped Ighalo on a break late in the game around the 80th minute, but was also very risky in his passes and was responsible for conceding an unnecessary corner that lead to Watford’s goal.

Leighton Baines – 6

For the second game in a row Baines was not able to have a real impact on the game. His crosses didn’t seem to connect when he tried them, but he rarely had the ball at his feet to do so as Everton were attempting to work the right-side all game.

Gerrard Deulofeu – 6

Deulofeu did well to attack and use his skill all game, but lacked precision in his passes and in his dribbling. On multiple occasions, Deulofeu would lose the ball when attempting to do a skill move and also missed open passes like when he was breaking down the right-side in the second half and missed an open Aaron Lennon for an easy goal.

Gareth Barry – 6

Barry was solid throughout the game and played his normal, controlling style of play. He had a header late in the 90th minute off a set piece that he could have done more with, but overall Barry had a solid game.

James McCarthy – 8 MOTM

McCarthy did great all game helping on defense and pressuring the ball. He made some great tackles like his one on Ighalo late in the game and also facilitated the game on offense. He scored a great goal that was a result of his high work-rates and great pressure.

Aaron Lennon – 6

Lennon attacked more in his role on the left today, but still did not have a real impact on the game. He tracked back well as always, but was not a threat going forward.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Ross Barkley – 6

Barkley seemed to lack energy today and was not his usual self going forward. He was subbed off early by Cleverly as his lack of pressure and energy was evident.

Romelu Lukaku – 7

Lukaku had a good game, but simply lacked chances to score the ball. He probably should have scored off Gomes’ parry when he hit the crossbar, but otherwise had no real chances.

SUB Tom Cleverly – 6

Cleverly brought energy and pressure when he replaced Barkley, but that was about it. He helped on defense but in the CAM role, he should have done more going forward.

SUB Kevin Mirallas – 7

Mirallas looked great today after being subbed on and created some great chances off crosses and creative passes. He had a great free-kick late in the game that almost resulted in a goal, but Lukaku put it too high.
