The Blues have finally got their man, as Morgan Schneiderlin is on his way to Goodison after Manchester United agreed to the £22 million transfer fee.

So, how excited should Toffees supporters be?

Very excited.

Sure, Schneiderlin has barely played since Jose Mourinho took the helm at Old Trafford, but that doesn’t mean he’s not ready to play an integral in Everton’s midfield.

And you can be damn sure that Schneiderlin, who has made only five appearances for United this season, will be hungrier than a starving wolf.

In the prime of his career, Schneiderlin is still only 27 years old. And there’s no doubt that he’s a brilliant footballer.

Everton supporters have a lot to look forward to if he can pull the strings the way he did for Ronald Koeman in Southampton. He’s exactly the type of midfielder Everton have been yearning for.

The Frenchman will complement Idrissa Gueye perfectly, as Schneiderlin will push the tempo and pull the strings, spearheading most attacks. He isn’t a goalscorer by any stretch of the imagination, but has the incisive passing ability to cut defenses apart, thereby creating more chances for Romelu Lukaku and company.

With a bit of first-team football, the French midfielder will regain the kind of confidence and match sharpness that helped him become an elite player on the south coast.

He pings the ball about with consummate ease and hits targets, both short and long range, with pinpoint precision. In the right circumstances, Schneiderlin has the capability to turn a game on its head.

And he’s most definitely well rested and eager to make an impact. Gareth Barry may have to make way for Schneiderlin, who should step into the starting team immediately. Gueye is still away at the Africa Cup of Nations so Barry or Tom Davies should start beside their new teammate.

Unsurprisingly, Everton supporters are chuffed about their new, marquee signing, probably the most important deal Koeman had in mind before the transfer period commenced.

Less than a week into the transfer period and Everton have already signed Ademola Lookman and Schneiderlin, with many more moves purportedly forthcoming. It’s an exciting start to 2017 for Toffees supporters and I can’t wait to see who else Koeman brings to Goodison.
