Everton have their eye on Benfica forward Helder Costa
By Gary Pearson
Another forward has been linked to an Everton move, this time Ronald Koeman’s gaze falling upon Benfica forward Helder Costa, who is currently on loan at Wolves.
The 23-year-old has been on loan with three different clubs – Deportivo La Coruna, Monaco, and Wolverhampton – since 2015 but has been part of the Benfica system since 2004.
He hasn’t made an impact yet for Benfica’s first team and didn’t stick around Deportivo – six appearances – or Monaco – 25 appearances – for too long either.
Helder Costa scouting report
The scouting report on Costa suggests that the Angolan is strong at set pieces, loves to dribble and isn’t afraid to contribute on the defensive side of the ball, a character trait that will endear him to Koeman.
He’s got pace to burn and is a competent tackler, especially for a forward.
He doesn’t, however, hold the ball up brilliantly and isn’t the most effective player in aerial combat. His passing ability is a bit inconsistent, as he is known to make incredibly difficult passes look easy. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true.
The big question, with his lack of first-team football at the top level, is whether he would be able to thrive in the Premier League. He has scored seven goals and added five assists in 25 appearances so far this season with Wolves.
They are decent numbers, but aren’t particularly special. Koeman would have a lot of work on his hands to make sure Costa is at the level he needs to be for a team vying for European cup places.

West Ham, Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace, Southampton, and Hull City are all also interested in Costa. It will take about £15 million to make the deal happen, according to Portugal’s O Jogo media outlet.
