The Daily Star has reported that Ashley Young is looking to move away from Manchester United, with Everton as one of the possible suitors.

Young isn’t seeing much match time at United, but it’s being reported that Jose Mourinho doesn’t want to let the 31-year-old leave Old Trafford. Young, though, has made his intentions felt as first-team football at United is becoming less likely by the day.

Young arrived at United in 2011, and has played over 100 matches for the Red Devils. He would fit nicely into Ronald Koeman’s 3-5-2 formation, but would still have to fight for his place in the first team, as Leighton Baines isn’t going anywhere fast.

Seamus Coleman is also playing consistently well on the other wing, so Young would have his work cut out for him.

But Young still has the kind of quality that would instantly boost Everton’s pedigree. At 31 years of age, the English wing back still has few fruitful years ahead, only if he leaves United that is.

It doesn’t look like Mourinho has any intentions on re-introducing Young into the first team, so he’ll have to play a periphery role until a transfer comes about.

West Brom, Swansea and Watford are also interested in signing Young, so it will be interesting to see how the situation develops. Most importantly, Mourinho must accept that Young’s time at United is done and let the player fulfil his wish to leave the club.

There is currently no suggestion of what it would cost to lure the player to Goodison, but it won’t be cheap. That is the only certainty in this developing story.
