With just 3 games left Everton currently sit 1st on 44 points, with a very good Man City having played one more game than us on 42 after thrashing Derby 4-0. We’ve drawn 2 and lost 3 in a 22 game season, our team is outrageously strong even after having Holgate, Davies and Calvert-Lewin all being promoted to first team.

With Everton currently riddled with injuries we have witnessed Mathew Pennington get another call up, Joe Williams and Jonjoe Kenny feature on the bench for the first team against Leicester in addition to Lookman and Calvert-Lewin. Though unlikely to have a significant influence on the U23 title race, it would be preferable if there was no need to call them up with the title race being so tight. Time to step up, boys!

Manchester City’s upcoming games are: Liverpool and Southampton (placing at 3rd and 9th respectively), while we play Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool (6th, 4th and 3rd respectively). If Everton win on Monday, that would put 5 points between 1st and 2nd meaning in order for our boys to not win the title, we would have to lose both of our remaining games while City win both of theirs.

To put that into perspective, the last time the Everton U23’s conceded a loss before the recent 3-0 defeat to City themselves, was late October when facing Liverpool away. This season we have enjoyed scorching hot form which would stand out more, if it weren’t for City also having great success to reach 42 points already; Liverpool have an excellent academy and currently place 3rd sitting on 33 points with 4 games to play.

Despite the senior City squad having won the league with a team consisting of the likes of Aguero, Silva, Toure and Barry, their under 18 squad is predicted to become their ‘golden era’, following suit their U23 side is ridiculously good.

To win the PL2 title when faced against a team as strong as theirs will be no small feat, and could have serious implications regarding positive interest in our youth players, with them potentially being loaned to a higher standard of clubs. Additionally the title would strengthen the already seismic pull that our magnet of a youth academy has on young players. Unfortunately for us it would be certain to raise awareness of the quality of our coach, David Unsworth.

A live stream of the match being played at Goodison will be hosted on Facebook, entry will be free for Season ticket holders and Foreverton members. For anyone else wanting to go it is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
