With the season coming to a close, we see the cauldron of rumours, speculation, and precontract agreements begin to simmer for the first time since January. Despite a history that would make your heart go ‘woaaaaah’ Everton Football Club would be considered ‘new money’ during the Premier League era, and being the new rich kid has implications.

European football is what the top players Everton will be looking to acquire want. Even the football Leviathans that are Manchester United struggled to make big signings until they earned a higher League position. Before then they turned to spending big on the highest rated young players like Depay and Martial, whereas now they break the record with Pogba and pluck the Bundesliga player of the year away from Dortmund.

With the way things are shaping up it looks like Everton will secure a position to qualify for Europa League, which is a significant contributor to the likelihood of top players signing for us, but it still might not be enough. Being newly rich is also a factor in the decision of a potential signing if our established rivals are also bidding, which we’ve already seen once.

Kolasinac the Bosnian right back was identified by Steve Walsh as a potential signing for Everton, the 23 year old ended up signing for Arsenal on a free for more money than we were offering. That Everton potentially snagged a Shalke starter on a free is a big statement on where the club and English football currently is, I would not have imagined it possible even 2 years ago, however we’re still missing out.

We have been heavily linked with Ghezzal from Lyon too, another starter who would be coming on a free should we secure him. Not too pacey but technical and skillful, he could be a true asset especially if we don’t have to pay Lyon. However there is already rumours that he will choose a bigger club in favour of Everton.

Mo’ Money, Mo Besic, Same Problems.

I think the answer to making sure our competition doesn’t constantly win us in the race to sign players will be time, if we can prove ourselves as serious top 6 contenders and establish ourselves in Europe by doing well in the Europa League next season, then our emphasis on youth and continued success in the league will be enough to attract the top players.

Up the Ev.
