Playing almost every minute this season, Romelu Lukaku has been the focal point for Everton. When teams face us, their main concern will be how to limit Lukaku’s danger, to the extent of basing their whole game plan around cutting off his supply and isolating him. However, should Romelu leave this summer, that does not mean Everton will collapse as many seem to think.
Of course you always want to keep your best players, especially if that player at the young age of 23 is one of the best players in the league. Lukaku’s talents are undeniable, a lot of people who don’t watch him play every week still think Lukaku is not ready to join a top team yet, but we know the truth. Everton are becoming said top team, and this summer will be a case of convincing him to stay until we get there, but should he leave, it won’t be as devastating as everyone believes.
Moshiri will likely spend over £100 million during the 2017/18 season, but if we sell Lukaku you would have to imagine that number doubling at the very least. We could replace Lukaku with Lacazette or Icardi, but neither would fill his shoes. In terms of players who will come to Everton at the moment, only Rooney could compare, but there are others who would step up.
Koeman got into Europa League qualifiers with a front line of Pelle and Long, the talent currently at Everton is already better than that, and will only be built upon this summer. Also, Lukaku is not the sole creator and finisher of every goal he has scored for Everton. He can be a one man attack at times, and when he is on his game, then he is legitimately unplayable, but most of the goals he has scored this season have not been wondrous solo efforts, but instead a conclusion of the football Everton play.
We won’t be able to replace him, but we will perform better as a team should he leave, and Everton will be fine without him. If all else fails, Hull have a decent Senegalese striker who we could sign on the cheap.
Up the Ev.
