With Everton reportedly on the verge of signing Boris Mathis, we find out more about the young forward.
This has undoubtedly been one of the most eventful offseason’s in recent memory for Everton. Every time you think you’re up to date on what’s going on, news of another potential signing comes out.
In that respect, Saturday saw Everton being linked with yet another player. As reported by sportwitness.co.uk, they are extremely interested in signing Boris Mathis.
In fact, depending on who you ask, the Toffees have already secured the services of Mathis. Local French media outlet Le Republician Lorraine suggested a two-year deal had been agreed.
However, as noted by sportwitness.co.uk, this was based on a tweet from their journalist Jean-Seb Gallois, which was later deleted. Gallois has since sent out another tweet without mention of the contract length, simply saying Mathis has agreed to join Everton.

French newspaper L’Equipe reported in their Saturday edition, that other clubs had also been tracking the progress of the 19-year old. However, Everton were by far the most serious option for him.
Regardless, a lot of Evertonians could be forgiven for wondering who Mathis is? With just two senior appearances to his name, he’s not exactly in the Wayne Rooney category of top-rated prospects.
What we do know is that before joining Metz, the forward started his career in the youth setup at Lyon’s academy. He may have flown under the radar, but you assume Everton would have done their due diligence, before making a move for the youngster.
One interesting aspect, is that L’Equipe suggests Mathis does not yet have a professional contract. If true, this means Everton will not have to pay a conventional transfer fee for him.
All of the speculation should become clarified, once the Toffees officially confirm the Bron, France native’s signing. Next season, he will play for David Unsworth, in the title-winning Under-23 team.
