Previously a key member of the Everton midfield, James McCarthy could be set to leave Goodison Park, as a result of interest from Leicester City.
With all the players Everton have signed and been linked to, there has to be a knock-on effect at some point. More specifically, there will be players who likely have to move on, due to less opportunities to contribute.
One such player appears to be James McCarthy. As per a report from the Daily Mail‘s Simon Jones, Leicester City are interested in McCarthy and have made an enquiry about his availability.
While this enquiry seems optimistic, Simon adds that the 26-year old is likely to leave Goodison Park this summer. This is somewhat surprising, given his contributions to the club, since arriving nearly four years ago.

McCarthy missed a major portion of last season with a hamstring injury, after failing to rest it properly. However, before then he was a key part of Everton’s midfield, best highlighted by helping them reach 72 points during the 2013/14 season – their most ever in the Premier League era.
Another reason for the surprise over the Republic of Ireland international’s apparent availability is you can never have too many quality midfielders, especially someone with such a calming influence and intelligence. The position will already be impacted by Ross Barkley’s likely departure, while the Blues have yet to secure the services of Gylfi Sigurdsson.
In this respect, it’s possible McCarthy himself has indicated a desire to move on. Everton’s preference may be for him to stay after placing a £25 million price tag on him, which has deterred potential suitors, including Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion.
Our opinion is the Glasgow-born McCarthy should stick around a while longer, as last until the next transfer window opens . Regardless, it will be interesting to see how this matter pans out for a player who has amassed 126 appearances and six goals, since arriving on Merseyside.
