Everton are reportedly interested in Theo Walcott, but what are their chances of persuading Arsenal to part company with the winger?

Even as one door closes, another one opens. At least that’s what we’re taking from the lastest speculation involving Everton.

In recent weeks, the Blues have been linked with Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud. And while the French international seems all but certain to leave North London, he has apparently picked Borussia Dortmund over Everton.

Regardless, Ronald Koeman still has unfinished business with the Gunners. As per a report from the Mirror‘s John Richardson, Everton have now turned their attention to Theo Walcott.

With Yannick Bolasie out until at least December, Koeman needs a wide man. And in Walcott, he may have found the solution.

The 28-year old has two years remaining on his current contract. However, he was in and out of favour with Arsene Wenger last season, thus providing Everton with the opportunity to swoop in.

This situation was best illustrated by Walcott being an unused substitute in the FA Cup final win over Chelsea. This despite finishing the 2016/17 season with the second-most goals of his career.

In truth, being in and out of favour sums up the Southampton’s youth academy product’s career perfectly. Once considered one of the brightest young talents in the game, he has arguably never fully taken advantage of his potential.

However, this doesn’t mean Walcott hasn’t had a good career. He’s won trophies, scored over 100 club goals and represented England at major sporting tournaments.

Further, while the Stanmore-born player would be used mostly as a winger for Everton, his versatility would allow him to also play as a striker, which he’s done more of in recent years. To illustrate his all-around ability, he led Arsenal with 21 goals the first season Wenger deployed him regularly as a striker, during the 2012/13 campaign, while also adding 16 assists.

One final factor to consider, assuming the Gunners will even sell Walcott, is the transfer fee. According to Richardson, Everton will offer £30 million, which is well within their budget.
