Everton: Just pay the damn £50 million already!
By Paul Taylor
Swansea have reportedly rejected a second bid by Everton for Gylfi Sigurdsson. It’s time for the Blues to bite the bullet and pay what the Swans want.
On Sunday, the Express claimed Swansea City were finally prepared to compromise on their valuation of Gylfi Sigurdsson and accept a deal worth £45 million from Everton. Well, not so fast.
As reported by The Guardian‘s Andy Hunter, the Swans have rejected the offer, as they remain resolute in their £50 million price tag. And in truth, fair play to them.
Swansea are showing they won’t be pushed around by a bigger club. They don’t want Sigurdsson to leave anyway and are — theoretically at least — in a position of power, with the winger still having three years left of his current contract.
As for the player himself, the 27-year-old is apparently keen to move to Merseyside and is doing his bit to force a move. This included dropping out of Swansea’s recent pre-season tour to the United States, just hours before the team were due to fly out to Philadelphia.

We’ve previously stated Everton just need to step up and pay the £50 million. This saga has gone on far too long, having a negative effect on the Blues’ relationship with the Welsh side.
Hunter does go on to write negotiations are expected to continue between the two sides. However, the Toffees’ reluctance to meet the asking fee now means they will effectively not have Sigurdsson available, for the first leg of their Europa League third qualfying round tie versus MFK Ruzomberok.
In that respect, Everton only have themselves to blame. Just pay the damn money already, to bring this unsavoury episode to a conclusion.
