Everton reportedly want to sign Diego Laxalt, but the midfielder apparently has his heart set on a move to the red half of Merseyside.

According to football media outlet SquawkaEverton are apparently considering a move for Diego Laxalt. Quoting reports which originated in Italy, Squawka writes that the Blues have joined the likes of West Ham United and Torino, in the race to sign the attacking midfielder.

West Ham and Torino have already had bids rejected for Laxalt, theoretically opening the door for Everton to make their move. They are reportedly prepared to meet Genoa’s asking price of around £26 million.

However, there could be an unpleasant curveball to consider in this situation. Squawka notes Laxalt would prefer a move to their bitter rivals, Liverpool.

Now, it should be pointed out there is no indication at this stage, that Liverpool are even interested in the Uruguayan international. Regardless, is it still worth Everton making a move for him?

Certainly, Laxalt is an intriguing prospect, renowned for his work ethic, endurance and speed. He is considered a versatile, creative threat, as evidenced by creating the second-most chances for Genoa last season.

On the less positive side, the 24-year-old does not score many goals himself. He is also extremely reliant on his left foot, making you wonder if he is worth paying £26 million for.

Overall, the pros outweigh the cons and Laxalt is still young enough to improve further. Whether the Blues such actually put a bid in for him, is another case altogether.

In our humble opinion, Ronald Koeman would be better served, looking elsewhere to improve the squad. Besides, do you really want to sign a player who apparently has his heart set on a move to your city rivals?
