Jordan Pickford withdraws from the England squad with a muscular injury, but when will he return to action for Everton?
Even allowing for the 2-0 loss to Chelsea, Jordan Pickford has enjoyed an excellent start to his Everton career. Through seven competitive games, he has already made a number of timely saves and only conceded four goals.
As such, it came as little surprise when Pickford was called up by England, for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia. Unfortunately, any joy for him was short-lived.
As per a report from The Guardian, the 23-year-old has withdrawn from the squad, with a muscular injury. Interestingly, the injury was actually sustained, during Sunday’s defeat at Stamford Bridge.
After reporting for duty at St George’s Park on Sunday, Pickford underwent an assessment for his injury. However, following discussions between England and Everton, it was determined the goalkeeper should return to Merseyside for further treatment.

Of course, given the early season barrage of injuries to Everton players, this latest news is even more reason for fans to panic. More specifically, how long will the Washington-born goalkeeper be out of action?
Fortunately for Evertonians (and their club), if we look at this matter objectively, the chances are Pickford won’t miss any playing time. First of all, consider that he was able to complete the entire 90 minutes versus Chelsea.
Secondly, the Blues do not play again until Sept. 9, meaning the goalkeeper has nearly two weeks to recover. And finally — for what it’s worth — Everton have not included him on their list of injured players on their official website.
All in all, indications are this is just a minor injury and Pickford should be ready to go, when Tottenham Hotspur visit Goodison Park. And while he will likely be disappointed at still waiting to make his senior international duty, it is a small price to pay, as his long-term fitness is the most important thing for everyone concerned.
