Ronald Koeman must turn around the fortunes of Everton, or risk being unable to secure future managerial jobs with the top clubs around Europe.

The underlying sentiment around Everton, is that Ronald Koeman’s time as manager was never destined to be a long-term arrangement. In fact, in light of recent results, there have been some calls for him to leave now, if his heart isn’t in the job.

Here’s the thing though – Koeman can’t afford to just walk away from the Blues. He has too much at stake.

The 54-year-old admitted back in May, that his dream is to eventually manage Barcelona. However, if he can’t cope with the pressure at Everton, what chance does he have of being asked to deal with the white-hot intensity that comes with being in charge at the Nou Camp stadium?!

Further, if Koeman is unable to revitalise Everton and get them producing more positive results, what does that tell us? Why would he deserve a job with any of the big name clubs around Europe, if he can’t turn the Blues’ fortunes around?

Pure and simple, the former Dutch international’s very reputation and future prospects are on the line here. As such, no matter how passionless he may seem about managing Everton, it doesn’t mean he won’t do everything possible to help them succeed.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily fill Evertonians with much confidence. They’re still concerned about Koeman’s tactics, fielding the right line up and his – lack of – ability to motivate the players.

However, Blues fans should at least take solace in the knowledge the former Ajax player has no intention of failing. It quite simply isn’t an option for him.

As things stand, Koeman’s contract runs until the end of next season. However, the only way he’s leaving early is if he’s sacked – a scenario which no one connected with the club truly wants to see, as it would mean they are still struggling.
