Everton: What’s the next step for Liam Walsh?
By Paul Taylor
Liam Walsh has returned from his loan spell with Birmingham City, but what will Everton do with the young and talented midfielder?
Everton saw their squad increase by one on Sunday, with the return of Liam Walsh. As reported by Sky Sports, Walsh was back training with the Blues, following his loan spell at Birmingham City.
Interestingly, the 20-year-old’s loan deal has not actually been terminated, at least not yet. He joined Birmingham at the end of the Summer transfer window, for an initial period of six months.
Walsh played three times for the (other) Blues while Harry Redknapp was in charge. However, since Redknapp was sacked and replaced by Steve Cotterill, the young midfielder has not seen any further action.
Apart from Birmingham, Walsh also spent time on loan with Yeovil Town. While there, he made 15 appearances and scored one goal.

Now, thoughts turn to what Everton will do with Walsh, who has been with them since the age of five. He is a gifted player who has excellent passing range and is effective from free kicks.
According to Sky Sports, the likelihood is Walsh will maintain his match fitness by playing for the Under-23s team. He should be a welcome addition, after helping them win the inaugural Premier League 2 title last season.
The Huyton-born youngster was a key player for the side, contributing six goals in the process. He was named Premier League 2 Player of the Month for February and also shortlisted for the Player of the Year award.
Walsh has yet to make his first team debut for Everton and the chances are he will have to wait until at least next season. However, the future looks bright for a player, who has already been capped at the England Under-16 and Under-18 level.
