New Everton manager Sam Allardyce will leave no stone unturned, as he aims to turn around the Blues’ season and take them to greater heights.

There are various theories why Gylfi Sigurdsson has struggled since joining Everton. These include the lengthy negotiations, moving to a bigger club and being played out of position.

Regardless, it’s clear Sigurdsson has not been the player Everton hoped they were getting, when they paid a club record £45 million fee for him. Fortunately for the 28-year-old, he now has a manager who is going to do whatever it takes to help him perform better.

This includes helping address the Icelandic international’s frame of mind. As per The Guardian‘s Richard Jolly, Allardyce appears set to bring in a sports psychologist.

The former Bolton Wanderers manager has a history of hiring experts from various fields, to help improve the mental and physical well-being of his players, both on and off the pitch. Given the success he has enjoyed as a manager, it’s hard to argue with this approach.

Allardyce gave his reasoning behind wanting to hire a sports psychologist, for Sigurdsson and the rest of the squad. As reported by Jolly, he said:

"“If the brain is clear and positive before the lads go out, then they produce a positive performance. If the brain is clouded and doubtful, you don’t see the player produce the abilities he has got. That has obviously been seen on a couple of occasions here with the lack of confidence from the lack of results.”"

While opinion may still be split among Everton fans when it comes to Allardyce, you have to applaud his open-minded approach. Also renowned for being a players’ manager and a motivator, you know he will do everything possible, to turn around the Blues’ fortunes.

The former England manager admits he has spent little time so far on tactics, as he looks to improve the overall mindset of the players. If the club can continue to climb up the Premier League table, we’re sure Evertonians won’t have any issue with Allardyce’s methods.

If nothing else, the 63-year-old has been a breath of fresh air, after Ronald Koeman. By comparison, the Dutchman seemed almost stuck in his ways, unprepared to change his approach.

With the talent in the squad, Everton should never have been in the bottom three. Now, it’s time to start believing in themselves and playing up to their talent level – maybe Allardyce was the right man for the job after all…
