Everton versus Liverpool: Facts, figures and odds
By Paul Taylor
As Everton look to continue their good start to Sam Allardyce’s reign, we provide you with all the latest information ahead of their big game with Liverpool.
They say anything can happen in a local derby, regardless of the form of the respective clubs. Unfortunately for Everton, this hasn’t been the case for quite some time.
Entering Sunday’s game, Liverpool are unbeaten in 14 games against the Blues in all competitions. If the Reds can avoid defeat at Anfield, they will equal their longest ever undefeated run against their cross-city rivals.
Making the upcoming task even more ominous for Everton, is the fact their form has been even worse when playing away to Liverpool. They have gone 17 games without a win at Anfield, with their last victory coming before the new millennium even started.
As such, it is entirely understandable why the bookies aren’t giving the Blues much love. As per Sports Book Review, a home win for the Reds is the most likely outcome, followed by a draw.
Even Sam Allardyce is in agreement with how superior Liverpool are. Sort of. As reported by BBC Sport, the new Blues’ manager said:
"“(Jurgen Klopp) shouldn’t be too worried about me the way his team is playing at the moment. If I was sat in his position with the players that he’s got, it’s a wonderful situation.”"
While you imagine Allardyce’s tongue was planted firmly in his cheek, he’s right about Liverpool’s excellent position. A win on Sunday would see them move up to third in the Premier League.
And yet, if you wanted a manager who could upset the status quo, Big Sam certainly fits the profile. Regardless of the quality of the opposition, Allardyce’ Everton reign is off to an excellent start.

The Blues can essentially enter Sunday’s clash with the mentality of having nothing to lose, especially with no pressure on them. This makes them a dangerous propositition.
And if there’s one player who will be desperate to make his mark, it will be Wayne Rooney. While he’s had some big games against Liverpool with Manchester United, this is different.
Before ending his first spell with Everton, Rooney failed to score in four appearances against the Reds. And yet, it would come as no surprise if he found the back of the net on Sunday afternoon.
For some, this is just a warm up act for the pending FA Cup tie. However, if you’re looking for a tame affair with two teams holding back, you’ve come to the wrong place.
