Everton continue to produce results under new manager Sam Allardyce despite dealing with a significant casualty list, but they need more help soon.

Everton have been on an excellent run since Sam Allardyce was officially announced as the new manager. However, despite an unbeaten run of four games, Allardyce is taking nothing for granted.

One of the main reasons for this, comes down to the Blues’ casualty list. Yes, all clubs suffer from injuries, but it sure seems like Everton have had worse luck than most, at least in the Premier League.

Allardyce provided an update ahead of Wednesday’s trip to St James’ Park, where they will face a struggling Newcastle United side. As reported by Sky Sports, he said said:

"“We’ve got Maarten Stekelenburg, Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman, Ross Barkley, Ramiro Funes Mori, James McCarthy, Yannick Bolasie – all out.”"

What makes this injury list so significant, is that none of them have yet to make an appearance for the first team this season. And of the seven players, you can make a justified argument that four, maybe five, would be in contention to start regularly.

Allardyce made reference to this, while also offering a positive perspective. Again reported by Sky Sports, he said:

"“A lot of big players missing from this squad. We’re still getting results and will improve even more when these players get back.”"

The question is, when will they be back? The worst is Ramiro Funes Mori, who is effectively out for the remainder of this season.

The other players have been listed as “unknown” on Everton’s official website with the exception of Maarten Stekelenburg, who is expected back this month. Along those lines, the latest indications are Ross Barkley will also be back sometime during December.

However, perhaps the best bet to return first from the casualty list is Yannick Bolasie. As we reported earlier, he played the last half an hour on Monday night for the U23s side.

Evertonians may not be entirely convinced, but these are good times for their club. And with the quality of the talent on the casualty list, things can only get better.

Certainly, Allardyce is looking forward to having the problem of too many quality options to choose from. As per Sky Sports, he said:

"“We need to integrate them back into the squad as soon as possible, which will give me a massive headache, but I’m looking forward to it.”"

With of the players currently out through injury, do you believe Everton miss most? Further, do you expect to see Barkley play again in a Blues shirt, before his seemingly inevitable transfer? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
