Dominic Calvert-Lewin deserves his contract extension, after being one of the more consistent and harder-working players for Everton this season.

Even when Everton were struggling this season, it didn’t seem to get Dominic Calvert-Lewin too down. Game in, game out, he was usually one of the more consistent and hardest-working players on the pitch, regardless of how the rest of the team was performing.

As a result, Calvert-Lewin received his just reward on Thursday afternoon. As confirmed by the Blues’ official website, he has signed a contract extension, that will run through to June 2023.

Signed from Sheffield United for £1.5 million in August 2016, the 20-year-old is set for a fantastic career at the top level of professional football. For many, he is expected to be the long-term answer for Everton up front, as they aim to return to their glory days of the 1980s.

In that respect, Calvert-Lewin is enjoying the benefit of learning from the best in Wayne Rooney. It seems to be working, as evidenced by six goals and three assists so far this season, in all competitions.

This form adds further credence to the belief the Sheffield-born youngster doesn’t get fazed, regardless of the occasion. Perhaps the best example of this was his scoring the winning goal for the England U20s when they beat Venezuela back in June, to win the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Calvert-Lewin will only get better in the coming years. He size means he’s strong in the air, but he’s also excellent with the ball at his feet.

This was something Blues’ manager Sam Allardyce mentioned, when discussing the youngster and why he was offered a new contract. As reported by evertonfc.com, Allardyce said:

"“Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a really exciting talent. He’s improving all the time and he has the athleticism and attributes to become a top player in his position.”"

As for Calvert-Lewin himself, he was delighted to commit to Everton for the foreseeable future. Speaking to evertonfc.com, he said:

"“I feel like I’ve improved a lot in a short space of time and I’m still looking to keep improving and getting better. That’s what I’m working on day in, day out. It’s nice to be rewarded and to be enjoying my football and it is a proud day for me and my family.”"

There were also new contracts for Jonjoe Kenny and Mason Holgate. The defensive duo signed deals, which will run through to June 2022.

All in all, the future looks promising for Everton, especially if they continue to concentrate on a youth setup which is one of the very best in England. And if any of the other young players need further motivation, they need look no further than Calvert-Lewin, Kenny and Holgate.
