Wayne Rooney has spoken in glowing terms about Olivier Giroud, as he admits Everton need to sign another striker when the transfer window reopens.
Let’s make thing clear right from the get go. There is no indication at this stage that Everton have any intention of renewing their interest in Olivier Giroud, when the transfer window reopens next month.
However, this doesn’t mean the Blues shouldn’t consider another bid for Giroud. And that’s despite the fact he chose to remain with Arsenal, when Everton made their previous approach for him during the summer.
The reason it’s worth lodging another bid, relates to the French international’s continued lack of playing time for the Gunners. So far this season, he has only started once in the Premier League.
Giroud admitted part of the reason for remaining in North London, was because he wanted to fight for his place in the Arsenal lineup. This attitude has to be respected, but at some point you have to give up the fight if nothing has changed.

Arsene Wenger can talk all he wants about the importance of the 31-year-old. However, the Gunners boss is playing with fire, by continuing to limit the player’s starts.
You can’t even argue that Giroud’s lack of playing time is down to poor form. With four goals in the Premier League and three more in Europe, he’s still proving how prolific he can be under the most trying of circumstances.
One Everton player who believes the French international should be playing more, is Wayne Rooney. As reported by the Metro, he said:
"“The one player for me who has to start is Olivier Giroud. He scores goals and every time he comes on he scores, he’s a handful and hard to play against. For me, if he starts games for Arsenal they are a better team.”"
With Rooney also admitting the Blues’ need for another striker, he may as well have shouted from the rooftops for the boardroom to make another bid for Giroud. In fairness, you imagine England’s all-time leading goalscorer would be given an audience, if he wanted to offer his opinion to Sam Allardyce, Farhad Moshiri and company.
Despite Giroud admitting he was extremely close to joining Everton in the summer, would he change his mind if another approach was made? Further, if the speculation is true that his wife didn’t want to move to Merseyside, would it even matter if he asked to leave Arsenal?
Of course, we cannot provide answers at this stage. However, if the Blues are smart, they should at least ask the question in January, by lodging a renewed bid for the former Montpellier player.
