Everton are reportedly considering making a move for Bristol City’s Joe Bryan, who has come through the youth academy to help them to third place in the Championship.

With January nearly here, speculation continues to mount in respect of who Everton will target, to strengthen themselves at left back. Leighton Baines remains out with a calf injury, while replacement Cuco Marina is not a natural in the position.

One possibility is Partick van Aanholt, who we looked at last week. However, you have to wonder if Crystal Palace would let him go, as they need all the help they can get for their fight against relegation.

Interestingly, another option could actually come from outside the Premier League. As reported by Alex Harris of the Express, Everton are considering a move for Bristol City’s Joe Bryan.

Harris adds that the Blues’ scouts have been closely following Bryan’s progress this season. The question is, why would they want a player who has never appeared in the top flight?

The 24-year-old is considered one of Bristol City academy’s top successes. He has risen through their youth ranks, to help the team to third place in the championship.

Bryan is energetic and strong, while he reads the game well and is an excellent tackler. These are understandably all attributes you want from a full back.

The Feb. 2015 Football League Young Player of the Month also offers the advantage of being versatile. If needed, he can play at wingback and in midfield.

Harris notes Newcastle also have their eye on Bryan. Regardless, this isn’t the first time teams have shown an interest, with the likes of Burnley, Middlesbrough, Birmingham City and Celtic having previously inquired.

Of course, you have to wonder if Bristol City would even allow the local-born youngster to leave at this stage. Apart from the fact he is helping their drive for the Premier League, he is under contract until the summer of 2019.
