Everton have reportedly declared their interest in Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun, as they search for help up front.

When Everton resume their search for a striker next month, what are some of the criteria they will be looking for? How about a player who is good for around 20 goals per season?

Let’s also throw in experience at the Champions League and international level. And while we’re at it, how about five assists per season?

On paper at least, this sounds like just the type of forward Everton could use, to enhance their attacking options. It also happens to be the resume for Cenk Tosun.

According to the Daily Mail‘s Simon Jones, the Blues have declared their interest in the Turkish international. Taking into account how difficult it will be to attract a new striker in January, Sam Allardyce apparently believes Tosun will provide an excellent option.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Tosun has been in fine form this season for Besiktas, with 12 goals and three assists in just 21 appearances. This includes four goals and two assists in the Champions League, where the team is through to the last 16.

The German-born player is seen as an all around talent, who is strong and does a lot of work off the ball. However, what will it take for the Blues to sign him?

Speculation indicates Besiktas want around £20 million for Tosun, who has 18 months remaining on his current contract. Everton can certainly afford it, but that doesn’t necessarily make this a straightforward matter.

As Jones notes, Allrardyce wants to make sure whoever the Blues bring in, can adapt quickly to the Premier League. However, the reality is there can be no such assurance with Tosun, no matter how much he has achieved so far in his career.
