Everton right back Seamus Coleman has urged the Blues’ supporters to continue to give their backing to the team as Everton focus on the final nine games of the season.

In an honest and forthright interview for evertonfc.com the Irish international praised the excellent backing Everton fans have given the side this season, despite their struggles.

He said: “The fans travel all around the country supporting us and we know what it means to them,” . “They are paying good money and it’s up to us to put in a performance for our home fans and then kick on and try to win away. The important thing is to win games.

He went on to add: “We understand their frustration but we need their support between now and the end of the season. I have no doubts we’ll get it because they’ve been fantastic and it’s up to us as players to make sure we perform.”

Coleman’s comments come after last Saturday’s loss at Burnley where some supporters voiced their anger at full-time over the team’s latest defeat.

Everton had disappointed again and slumped to another away loss despite taking the lead through Turkish striker Cenk Tosun, who scored his first goal for the club.

Reflecting on the game, the former Sligo Rovers player went on to talk about how the players felt after the Burnley match: “It’s difficult to understand. Obviously I’m just back in the team myself, this is my first away game since returning from injury but I don’t think any of the lads were thinking anything other than three points.”

Following his leg break in March last year, Coleman has been working hard at his rehabilitation and is looking forward to pushing on now he’s finally back to full fitness.

He added: “I’m happy to be out there and I want to help the lads between now and the end of the season,” he said. “I’ve felt good in the games I’ve played. I just want to kick on now.”

I think I can speak for virtually all Everton fans when I say that we’re just glad to see Coleman back in a royal blue shirt after such a long spell out injured.

In a season that has offered so few pleasures seeing Coleman back in the team and bombing up the right flank is one of a handful of highlights.

And of course he assisted Tosun’s goal with a deft little header on for the striker.

Regardless of what kind of changes we see in the summer and who is the club’s manager come the start of next season, having Coleman back after a full off-season will be one huge positive.
