And so as a dreadfully disappointing season limps towards a close the never-ending saga surrounding who will be Everton boss next season takes another twist.

We’re back where we started with Everton once more being linked with a move for the ex-Watford manager Marco Silva!

According to reports in Goal.com the Blues will be going back for him this summer to replace the long-suffering Sam Allardyce. He remains the first-choice of majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.

I can’t really see the attraction of Silva myself and I don’t think he has proven that he would be the right man for what is becoming an increasingly difficult position to fill.

After all Silva actually took Hull City down last season, something that his admirers seem to have forgotten. And his time at Watford came to a premature end this season with his sacking in January.

That was at least in part according to Watford because of Everton’s unwanted attentions earlier in the season after the Blues sacked Ronald Koeman.

Watford’s form had deserted them in the weeks before Silva’s departure after a good start to the campaign.

To be honest I don’t see much difference in his approach to that of Allardyce. He is a coach in the mold of his fellow Portuguese Jose Mourinho who bases his game on strong defence and rigid team organisation.

That’s not any different from Allardyce. The only real difference seems to be that Silva is an overseas coach with an untarnished reputation while Allardyce is the solidly old-fashioned English manager who’s been round the Premier League basement for many a season.

As we’ve said so many times before it all smacks of a lack of strategy and long-term thinking within the Blues hierarchy.

Apparently also according to Goal.com Chairman Bill Kenwright favours a move for Eddie Howe of Bournemouth if a change is to take place. But his influence is limited.

All these endless rumours can’t be doing much good. Although I’m sure the majority of players just get on with each game as it comes round, everyone at the club would surely welcome a bit of stability and certainty going forward.

If Allardyce is to stay on next season and see out his contract, then Moshiri should come out and say so publically.

To be honest whatever his failings and limitations, Allardyce deserves to know his future and where he stands.

And I don’t think all this uncertainty will help player recruitment either.

Those players being linked with a possible move to Everton might think twice if they don’t know who is going to be leading the negotiations and who they will be playing for.
