Everton to sign Yaya Toure?
Today’s rumour mill claims Everton are one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing the Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure.
Toure is leaving the Champions at the end of the season and according to the Mirror wants to stay in the Premier League. Everton along with Burnley and newly promoted Wolves are being touted as a possible destination.
The Ivory Coast international has been one of the finest players in the League over the past five seasons or so.
However at 34 his best years are definitely behind him and I don’t feel that this would be a good signing for Everton.
The Blues should be investing in younger players as part of a plan to build a strong, competitive squad over the next few years before the move into a new stadium.
For all his qualities Toure does not represent a long-term solution.
Talking of young players, there are also stories that the Blues are looking at young Ajax forward Justin Kluivert. The youngster is one of the most sought-after players in Europe at the moment.
Another player who is let’s be honest, past his prime is Wayne Rooney. There are also stories today in the Liverpool Echo that he would only be tempted to leave Goodison Park for a big money move either to China or the US.

To be honest I always felt that his signing was a bit of a sentimental decision by the club giving the boyhood Blue another chance to play for Everton again.
Rooney has not exactly set Goodison alight this season and despite his obvious desire to play for the Blues he has created problems in terms of where he should play.
This of course is similar to the issues Rooney seemed to make for past England teams as well.
Although the problems about whether he or Gylfi Sigurdsson is the main playmaker, is not the main reason the team has struggled this season, it hasn’t helped Everton find a settled team or pattern of play.
But I think that Rooney can still play a part in the re-building process when there should be part of a major clear-out at Everton this summer.

However if he was to get one of these offers I don’t think the club should stand in his way if he wanted to go for a football sabbatical abroad.
