We continue our series focussing on possible summer transfer targets for Everton to take a look at.

This time we will focus on forwards, an area (like most!) where Everton have certainly been found wanting this season.

One player who is not perhaps an obvious choice is Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck.

Like so many Arsenal players there is always the feeling that Welbeck has not quite fulfilled his potential at the Emirates.

He’s struggled to hold down a regular starting place in the team since moving from Manchester United and so it’s difficult to accurately assess his qualities.

However he has always been a productive player whenever he has played. This season, despite his lack of consistent starts he has scored 10 goals and created 2 assists.

Welbeck is a strong and direct attacking player with pace and a knack for being in the right place to score a goal.  He’s particularly effective playing wide on the left, which is a position Everton need to fill.

This is because its possible young forward Henry Onyekuru, might be staying at Anderlecht for anther season.

Arsenal will be under a new manager this summer for the first time since 1996. This new man will want to sell a number of players so Welbeck might be available at a good price.

Of course another wide attacking player who will certainly be sought-after this summer is Wilfried Zaha.

The Crystal Palace man has had another fine season  and underlined his quality with a number of stellar performances for the south London side.

He’s a versatile player with terrific pace and dribbling skills.  His ability to take on and beat an opponent makes him very valuable.

However it’s likely that clubs playing in Europe and the Champions League will be in for Zaha so Everton might have a real fight if they wanted him.

Another Palace striker to possibly consider is Christian Benteke.

He’s not had a great season and has not played regularly but he has still made five assists. And in the past he has been an effective and productive striker.

Benteke is very strong in the air and offers a real threat from set-pieces because of that ability. Signing him would though mean adjusting your playing style, putting in plenty of crosses, to get the best out of him.

Finally with rumours gathering pace that PSV Eindhoven transfer chief Marcel Brands is joining Everton, lets look at some potential attacking targets he might want to bring with him.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

One player who has certainly enjoyed a fine season in Holland is Hakim Ziyech of Ajax. The Moroccan forward has scored reached double figures in both goals and assists.

Ziyech has a lot of strengths including great passing ability, something, Rooney apart, Everton certainly lack.

Another striker playing for Brands’ current club PSV Eindhoven is the Mexico forward Hirving Lozano. He has netted 22 times for the Eriedivisie league leaders. He’s also chipped in with 8 assists.

Lozano is young, only 22 and is particularly adept at crossing and providing key passes. Lozano is one of those Central and South American players that Brands is renowned for finding. Perhaps he might move to England with him.

It’s always difficult to be sure about players from Holland, given that it’s a weak league overall but Brands’ inside knowledge might be critical here.
