While we are still waiting to see who will take over as Everton manager, the club are being linked today with a move for Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha.

In today’s Sun on Sunday Everton are being mentioned as one of several Premier League clubs who will try to tempt Zaha away from Selhurst Park.

He is apparently a key target of Marco Silva, the man who is favourite to eventually succeed Sam Allardyce as Blues boss.

Previously I have mentioned Zaha as a player the Blues should certainly consider signing. He has the attacking qualities Everton are in need of.

His pace, strength, dribbling skill and finishing would make him a very good addition to the Blues miss-firing attack.

He’s also versatile as well and able to play on the left, right or through the middle.

The Ivory Coast international scored nine times last season and contributed 3 assists, although that figure would probably have been higher but for the lack of quality strikers at Palace.

Zaha also averages over 2 shots per game, which is an area Everton have to improve in after being notoriously shot-shy last season.

Having just come off such a fine season, there are bound to be several of the top six clubs in for him this summer.

Although those clubs can offer European football, there is the experience of his previous move to a ‘big’ club when he joined Manchester United in 2013.

That move proved premature and didn’t work out for him. Although he is obviously a more mature and better player now, he might still not be guaranteed a starting place in a team like Manchester City or Liverpool.

At Everton he would be. So this might be a way of helping to persuade him to join the Blues rather than one of those other clubs.

I’ve said before I think Everton should move towards a much more fluid and interchangeable attack and a player like Zaha linking with Theo Walcott and perhaps also Ademola Lookman, (maybe), could provide just such a forward line.

However all this speculation is very dependent on who the Toffees bring in as their manager and whether or not his transfer targets are shared by new Director of Football, Marcel Brands. We shall see…
