Could Everton be the club that can rescue Marcus Rashford from his difficulties at Manchester United and should they?
Rashford is a player that I think Everton should seriously look at. The United youngster’s career has stalled at the Old Trafford club and shows tell-tale signs of falling away.
He is certainly a talented forward with pace to burn, lots of skill on the ball and goal scoring ability. He also shows some good football intelligence too.
But he has found it very difficult to break into the United team with any consistency, especially since the arrivals of Romelu Lukaku and then Alexis Sanchez.
This unfortunately is something that happens to so many, too many, young English players.
Everton have plenty of past experience of this, losing Jack Rodwell and just this last season, Ross Barkley. But also gaining from it when the club bought Lukaku from Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.
He has also suffered from the fact that Mourinho is not a coach who seems interested in developing young talent. He tends to buy already established players.
Rashford has had a difficult season this past term not getting regular football. But he’s still had a productive one, scoring 15 goals and making an excellent 6 assists. This is despite the fact he’s regularly been a substitute.
He actually scored a goal once every 143 minutes, a pretty impressive stat, especially because he also rarely played in just one position something that is also often a problem for young players who are versatile.
Rashford did start the FA Cup final just a few days ago and he struggled playing through the middle on his own. But United as a team struggled (in part surley because of Mourinho’s tactics) and of course lost a dull final 1-0.
I think that for Rashford the best thing for his career is to move to another club where he will get the chance to play regularly in one position and where he can learn and develop his game.
Everton can be that club. He has the potential to become an excellent player although he probably won’t ever be a prolific goal-scorer.

He would though be ideally suited to playing on the flank in a three-man attack, or coming in from a wide position and linking up with a strong centre-forward, like Cenk Tosun.
He had perhaps his best game when playing with a powerful striker, Lukaku, in the match at Old Trafford against Liverpool last season. He played with panache and took both his chances superbly well.
We have identified quite a number of players recently Everton might be interested in or who they could look at, Rashford is another.
It would probably be difficult to persuade him to swap the Champions League at United for Everton, but regular football, (something that will do his England chances no harm), could be a good incentive.

He and United might also be open to considering a loan deal at first, which could then become permanent. After all that’s how the Blues got Lukaku in the end.
