Reports in the media this afternoon are claiming Everton might be very close to appointing Marco Silva as manager this week.

BBC Sport are saying that Everton will likely finalise a deal for the former Watford coach this week. The BBC are also claiming Silva will sign a three-year deal when he officially joins Everton.

So it does look as though Blues majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri will finally get his man after more than six months of pursuing him.

Having been re-buffed by Watford back in November, Moshiri has it seems been biding his time waiting for the dust to settle on the controversy and then move again.

Watford had reported Everton to the Premier League for their approach back before Christmas and so as we all know the Blues eventually went for Sam Allardyce.

Fast forward and after a very disappointing season, Allardyce has gone and Everton are once again searching for the right man in the dugout.

Silva’s appointment, if it happens, will not be perhaps everyone’s first choice.

But to be honest I will just be glad this is sorted out as soon as possible as the on-going uncertainty is not helping the club move forward.

With new Director of Football Marcel Brands taking up his post on Friday, this decision needs to be made very soon.

It’s important that the club have their new manager and Brands in place together and that the pair can start doing some transfer business.

With the World Cup just round the corner there is a very tight window to make any new signings before then.

As this story appears well-founded, you have to imagine that Brands has met with Silva or has already had a conversation with him.

Presumably the two will see eye-to-eye on the type of football and players Everton need to progress.

As I have said before I think all Evertonians need to get behind the new man when he does actually take over, whether it’s Silva or someone else.

It will also be important to move on from the toxic atmosphere that characterised the end of last season. Then everyone involved with the club can perhaps begin to look forward to a more positive and successful future.
