Now as new manager Marco Silva starts his first week as Everton boss the stories about potential player targets are gathering pace.
Today the Mirror are reporting that Silva is interested in bringing Newcastle United central-defender Jamaal Lascelles to Everton.
Again like the rumour at the weekend regarding Norwich’s James Maddison, this is one we’ve heard before.
According to the paper, Silva is looking to take advantage of the continuing uncertainty over Newcastle’s ownership and manger Rafael Benetiz’s position.
Lascelles is also a player we’ve looked at in detail as well previously. He would be a good option to succeed Phil Jagielka for example.
The Newcastle player is a promising and highly-regarded defender who was perhaps a little unlucky, (largely because of playing for a struggling club), not to get a call-up to the England squad for the World Cup.
It is a positive sign that Silva and Director of Football Marcel Brands seems to be focussing on just the right areas of the team that need the most urgent need of attention.
First there were rumours about signing a new left-back, then a creative, goalscoring, young playmaker and now a new centre-half to partner Michael Keane, long-term.
These are all critical positional improvements that are necessary for Everton to make progress next season.
Along with another forward of real quality, I think these signings would make a massive positive difference to the Blues.

Talking of attacking talents, there is another young player Everton should look at who has been mentioned as a possible transfer target for English clubs, PSV Eindhoven’s Steven Bergwijn.
The 20-year-old is a young forward who can play in any position across the front line.
Bergwijn contributed both goals and assists to PSV this season. In 36 matches he scored eight goals and made seven assists.

He is the kind of promising young player that the Blues might consider looking at further. And presumably he is also a player that Brands having come from PSV will know well.
