Today’s transfer stories involving Everton focus not on possible arrivals but instead on a player who could be leaving Goodison Park.

This player is Morgan Schneiderlin. France Football are quoted on tribalfootball.com as saying that Marseille are preparing to make a bid for the Everton midfielder.

Apparently the Blues are prepared to let Schneiderlin go as he doesn’t fit into new manager Marco Silva’s plans.

I have to admit to mixed feelings about this story. When he first arrived Schneiderlin looked an excellent acquisition for Everton.

He had struggled at Manchester United following a big money move there but had been one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League  playing under Ronald Koeman at Southampton.

And of course Koeman was Blue’s manager at the time when he signed. Schneiderlin then enjoyed a very good first full season at Goodison as the Blues finished seventh in 2017-18.

He had formed a solid partnership with Idrissa Gueye in the centre of Everton’s midfield.

But as we know it all went wrong at the beginning of last season as Everton’s form fell away badly and the team were conceding goals left, right and centre.

Schneiderlin was obviously not the only player guilty of poor performances. But he was one who was singled out for some booing from frustrated Blues supporters.

It has seemed increasingly likely he might well move on this summer. However I still feel he could do a job for the Blues and so it would be a shame to see him go.

I also think it’s very unlikely the club will get what they paid for Schneiderlin if he does join Marseille.

This brings me back to what we’ve said earlier. Are Everton going to be able to shift all the players the club want to move on and will they get anything like what they paid for these players?

Moving on to another story that has been circulating for a while. Jack Wilshire is leaving Arsenal ending several months of speculation about his immediate future.

As most Evertonians will know, the former England midfielder has been regularly linked with the Blues.

Given the lack of new arrivals, will Everton throw their hat into the ring to secure the services of the 26-year-old who will be available on a free?
