Another day, yet another World cup transfer rumour involving Everton. This time the Blues are being linked with a move for the Croatia defender Domagoj Vida.

This story has surfaced in the sportswitness website. According to the site, Everton are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in the Besiktas player.

That’s nearly always the case of course as these players agents and their club are keen to create an impression of great interest in their client to bump up the transfer value.

However the website claims that Everton are in the box seat to sign the defender as they have a well-established, strong relationship with his club, Besiktas, following the transfer of Cenk Tosun last January.

So the Turkish club are apparently open to bids for the Croatian international.

Vida has been playing for Besiktas following a move from Dynamo Kiev. The 29-year-old is a fine defender who is particularly strong in the air.

He is also a good passer of the ball with a passing success percentage of over 80%. He’s also quite a versatile defender who can play centre-half or at right-back.

On the downside he does have a bit of a discipline problem with a number of yellow cards and a red too last season.

Vida has just helped Croatia reach the second round of the World Cup as they won their group.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Here’s another player who might well represent a solid purchase and help Everton strengthen the defence.

He would slot well into the position that Phil Jagielka currently fills and provide Michael Keane with a long-term defrrensive partner.

We are being constantly linked with various players such as Jack Wilshire, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Andre Carrillo or Vida but so far none have arrived at Goodison Park.

The only players that have moved have been those that have left such as Ramerio Funes Mori and Joel Robles.

Next: Niasse could be on his way too

We are still waiting for reinforcements for next season so lets hope that before too long one of these believable or not so believable stories of new player transfers actually happens.
