Blues’ attempts to land Yerry Mina take hit over agent’s comments

Everton have been dealt a slight blow in their pursuit of Yerry Mina as the defender wishes to fight for his place at Barcelona.

That is according to the centre-back’s uncle and agent Jair Mina, who was quoted in the Liverpool Echo about the prospect of a Premier League switch.

Yesterday we reported that the Colombia international was on the Blues’ radar as they look to bring in young, hungry talent this summer.

Toffees boss Marco Silva apparently wants to lure Mina to Goodison Park on a possible season-long loan.

However, the player’s representative revealed that his nephew and client had ambitions on trying to make it at the Nou Camp.

Stating that he was “not aware” of any bids from interested parties, Jair Mina explained that the 23-year-old was “convinced” he could make the grade with the Catalan giants.

Everton had reportedly made contact with Barcelona about the potential to bring Mina to Merseyside.

The ex-Palmeiras man may, however, still find his situation out of his hands.

La Liga clubs are only permitted three non-EU players in their squad – two of which are Brazil stars Philippe Coutinho and Paulinho.

With Gremio ace Arthur set to join them as well, Mina may not make the cut in Ernesto Valverde’s squad.

That would leave him unable to play football this season unless someone who doesn’t hold an EU passport is sold.

Everton had hoped to make the most of this unfortunate event for Mina and lure him to L4 as part of Silva’s plans.

That could still go ahead, but the comments from Mina’s agent don’t make for good reading.

Mina starred for his national side at the World Cup before their penalty shootout defeat to England in the last-16.

His aerial ability in both boxes, passing range, age and pace would all be welcome additions to Everton’s creaking backline.
