Blues apparently interested in luring Sweden star to Goodison Park

Everton want to bring Sweden and RB Leipzig star Emil Forsberg to Merseyside, according to the Daily Star.

The British newspaper has claimed that the Toffees want to lure the forward to Goodison Park this summer, with Yannick Bolasie potentially on his way out.

Forsberg was part of Sweden’s squad during their World Cup campaign that was ended by England on Saturday.

And, with the winger impressing out in Russia, the Star seems to think Everton could try and make a move for him.

Everton want to bring in attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season after they let boyhood Blue Wayne Rooney depart for DC United.

Toffees boss Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands want new arrivals despite having to reduce the first-team squad’s size first.

Forsberg would reportedly set Everton back around £25m, but that fee could increase even further if their Premier League rivals reignite their interest in him.

Merseyside rivals Liverpool and north London outfit Arsenal have also tracked the 26-year-old over the past 12 months.

If they wanted to bring him to England from Germany, they could incite a bidding war with Everton.

Another possible spanner in the works, should Everton want to sign him, would be their reluctance to do business with Leipzig over one of their own widemen.

The Bundesliga club saw a £12m offer for Ademola Lookman rejected on Wednesday after he impressed on a six-month loan last term.

Everton’s desire to keep Lookman would make any pursuit of Forsberg twice as hard as Leipzig would dig their own heels in over selling their star man to a team that won’t do business with them.

Forsberg also only penned a new deal with Leipzig recently and shows that he is committed to the club for the time being.

All of which makes Everton’s supposed hunt for the former Malmo ace dead in the water, and leave Silva likely having to look elsewhere for other attacking options.
