German outfit not giving in over pursuit of Everton wonderkid

RB Leipzig are refusing to admit defeat in their pursuit of Everton starlet Ademola Lookman.

The Bundesliga club’s new manager Ralf Rangnick was quoted in the Liverpool Echo as he explained why Leipzig still wanted to sign the forward.

Lookman spent the second half of last term on loan with the German side and excelled particularly towards the end of the campaign.

And Rangnick, who will also remain his former post as sporting director, told reporters of his wish to land Lookman permanently.

The German stated that the 20-year-old “wants to come” back to Leipzig despite the Blues’ desire to utilise his talents themselves this season.

New boss Marco Silva has already stated that he wants to blood Everton’s youngsters into the first-team setup in 2018/19.

That will include Lookman, who found opportunities to impress at a premium under Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce.

He scored five goals and weighed in with four assists for Leipzig after his temporary switch in January.

And his form and end product saw Leipzig try to open negotiations over a £12m deal with Everton last Thursday.

The Toffees, however, are not interested in selling the ex-Charlton Athletic wonderkid and see him as part of Silva’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

Lookman has remained tight-lipped on his future but did fly out to Austria with the rest of Everton’s squad on Monday.

The Blues have travelled to Austria as part of their pre-season preparations and Silva has managed to see what Lookman is about in training already over the past week.

The pacy wideman would be a useful addition to Everton’s options should he remain at Goodison Park.

His acceleration, unpredictability, eye for goal and versatility to play in a number of positions would be vital for Silva’s plans.

Evertonians also wish to see Lookman given a fair crack of the whip with games few and far between over the past 12 months.

Hopefully Lookman will be in action for the Blues for many years to come if they hold off Leipzig’s advances.
