Goals galore in Austria for Everton and more player rumours
As post World Cup transfer rumours continue to rumble on Everton are being linked with another midfielder, while the club have also just registered a record-breaking win in Austria.
As we report today the Spanish website mundodeportivo.com are claiming that defensive midfielder David Lopez is a target of Everton along with Spanish clubs Valencia and Real Betis.
So yet another unsubstantiated story about a possible, (but unlikely), Everton target is doing the rounds.
We’re getting used to these rumours coming and going while the Blues continue to make no new signings.
But I really don’t think Everton’s priority is a defensive, ball winner in the middle of the park. Where is the extra midfield creativity and goals going to come from if we sign more of these types of players?
Not that it’s certain we are going to sign any of the seemingly endless players the club are being linked with.
The Blues have just come off a record-breaking 22-0 win against a team in Austria as part of their ongoing pre-season preparations. However as everyone knows Premier League opponents are likely to offer a little more resistance than that side next season!
The club really need a major improvement in attacking quality as well as further defensive reinforcements at centre-half and left-back before the new campaign kicks off.

However it was pleasing to see Ademola Lookman get on the score sheet in Austria and manage a hat-trick too. Even Kevin Mirallas got amongst the goals netting five times.
If Lookman’s still at Goodison next season and can reproduce his form during his loan spell in Germany, then that would be a real bonus for the Blues.
It would also be like having a brand new player in the team given how little he has played for the Toffees so far.
Also with the World Cup now over players who have done well in that tournament and want to move on, will inevitably see their fees rise. So clubs like Everton who haven’t done any business yet will have to pay more for them.

That’s why a player like Lookman could prove so important next season. Especially if the Blues fail to sign new players in his position.
