Blues announce £40m acquisition of Brazilian as first summer signing

Richarlison has become Everton‘s first signing of the summer after his transfer from Watford was officially confirmed.

The Brazilian has penned a five-year contract with the Toffees after he successfully completed his medical ahead of a £40m move yesterday.

The club’s official social media channels – Twitter included – made the announcement official on Tuesday evening after multiple media outlets had hinted that the deal was done.

Richarlison will take the number 30 shirt at Goodison Park and could make his debut for the Blues in the pre-season friendly with Blackburn Rovers on Thursday.

Richarlison posed for photographs and took park in a 23-second long video as he was shown off to Evertonians online.

Speaking to the club’s official site after his transfer was confirmed, the 21-year-old failed to contain his delight at working alongside Marco Silva once more.

The pair worked together at Watford for six months before Silva was sacked in January amid a period of terrible form.

Richarlison said he “developed really well” under the 41-year-old’s guidance at Vicarage Road and hoped to reignite that blossoming relationship on Merseyside too.

He spoke of his gratefulness for Everton in “having faith in me” as well as he explained that he would “honour the shirt” and give the club’s fans something to shout about.

Richarlison bagged five goals and four assists during his first season in the Premier League.

He had initially moved to Watford from Fluminense for around £11m 12 months ago, and has seen his value triple since then thanks to Everton’s offer.

An initial fee of £30m is thought to have changed hands thus far, with the additional £5m in add-ons for things such as league appearances and qualifying for European competitions.

Richarlison’s arrival could spell the end of Yannick Bolasie’s or Kevin Mirallas’ careers in L4 with competition for a place on the wings now even greater too.
