Blues misfit appears set to leave as Blues allow midfielder to discuss £13m move to Bundesliga

Davy Klaassen is edging closer to the Everton exit after he was granted permission to speak to Werder Bremen.

On Tuesday we brought you news that the Dutch international was interesting the Bundesliga club ahead of a possible transfer.

The Liverpool Echo has now reported that Klaassen will miss Thursday night’s pre-season friendly with Blackburn Rovers to hold talks with Bremen officials.

The 25-year-old has failed to stamp his mark on the Blues since he completed a £23.6m move from Ajax last summer.

Klaassen featured just 16 times in all competitions for Everton last term as he struggled to acclimatise to the fast paced rigours of English top flight football.

Bremen are ready to offer him a way out of his Toffees nightmare, and have tabled a £12m bid to prise him away from Goodison Park.

The eventual fee is suspected to rise to £13m if Klaassen completes a number of bonuses inserted into the potential deal.

Everton would, therefore, make an £11m loss on the Netherlands playmaker, but seem happy to cut their losses after just one year.

Bremen are believed to have written up a four-year contract for Klaassen ahead of his meeting with their hierarchy.

If he does accept their offer, it won’t be long before Klaassen is clearing out his locker and heading back to mainland Europe.

Klaassen’s determination to fight for a spot in the team cannot be questioned, and his sorry 12-month spell on Merseyside has won him the admiration of Evertonians.

Klaassen’s name was sung by sections of the Goodison faithful as they tried to convince the men in charge to give him a proper run in the team.

Former boss Sam Allardyce elected not to take up that call, however, and only handed Klaassen a couple of brief run outs from the bench.

Klaassen will be the fourth permanent departure this summer if he leaves for Bremen, with Wayne Rooney, Ramiro Funes Mori and Joel Robles already having left for DC United, Villarreal and Real Betis.
