Klaassen leaves Everton and more transfer rumours
Davy Klaassen has finally left Everton after just a year at the club and according to the BBC is joining Werder Bremen in a £12 million pound deal.
This fee represents a considerable loss on the £24 million Everton paid Ajax for the midfielder last summer.
Having to take such losses on player transfers is something that the club really have to avoid in the future if possible. Obviously the Blues need to try to make a profit on player sales.
But Klaassen has had a real struggle adjusting to the Premier League and it seems in both his best interests and Everton’s for him to move on. He’ll probably have a brilliant campaign in the Bundesliga next season!
From a player leaving to another roundup of possible players coming to Goodison Park.
The Evening Standard is claiming the Blues have joined the race to sign Roma midfielder Maxime Gonalons. The French player has been a long-term target of Crystal Palace and now, according to the paper, Everton have decided to compete for his signature.
Although the 27-year-old is currently playing in the USA on Roma’s pre-season tour, the Italian club are apparently willing to sell him for the right price.
Gonalon didn’t play many games last season as Roma enjoyed a strong run-in, finishing in third place in Serie A. He only started 12 matches with another 4 substitute appearances.
The Frenchman is primarily a defensive midfielder who rates highly in terms of his passing and overall defensive qualities.

However this rumour seems unlikely and a little strange to me. As I’ve said before I don’t think Everton’s priority is another defensive player in the middle of the park.
The Blues need improved creative quality in that part of the team to support a more dangerous and productive attack.
Everton have previously spent almost £60 million on forward talent in January with the signing of Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott.
And now with the arrival of Richarlison, the Blues need to ensure that the team’s midfield provide these forwards with better ammunition than they had last season.
