Barcelona defender Goodison Park bounded after confirming Camp Nou departure

Everton have seemingly secured the signature of Lucas Digne after the Barcelona defender confirmed he would be leaving the Catalan giants.

The Toffees have been hotly tipped to land the France international as their second signing of the Marco Silva era.

Talk on a potential move had appeared to go quiet, but Digne took to his official Instagram account late on Sunday night to reveal he would be departing Camp Nou.

He explained that it had “been a dream” to play for Barcelona over the past two years and described the club as an “incredible family” in a lengthy, emotional tip of the hat to one of La Liga’s most decorated sides.

Barcelona themselves confirmed earlier on Sunday that Digne had been given permission to leave, although they refused to disclose where he would be heading to.

Everton are thought to have agreed to land the 25-year-old in a deal worth around £22m and finally find a good replacement to the ageing Leighton Baines at left-back.

The problematic area of the Blues’ first-team squad had yet to be sorted with just two weeks of the summer transfer window left to run.

But Everton now seem set to bring Digne to Goodison Park and will be able to rotate him with Baines as is necessary throughout next term.

Marcel Brands had flown to Catalonia earlier last week to thrash out a deal for Digne and continue discussions over a potential swoop for his defensive team-mate Yerry Mina.

It is Digne’s transfer that will be concluded first, providing that no other club makes an 11th hour bid to snatch him from under the noses of Everton.

Digne would be a solid acquisition for Everton and is certain to be the long-term successor to Baines, who turns 34 this year.
