Russian billionaire & friend of Moshiri speaks out over potential Everton investment

Everton could be set for another huge injection of cash after ex-Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov hinted that he may invest in the club.

The Russian billionaire recently sold his stake in the Gunners to American businessman Stan Kroenke, and his departure from the Emirates set tongues wagging among Evertonians that he could rock up on Merseyside.

Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Usmanov failed to dampen those expectations too by revealing that he would be “happy to help” close friend and Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri in any way possible.

The duo were shareholders at Arsenal with their Red & White Holdings company before Moshiri left to invest his wealth on Merseyside, and have been good friends for a number of years.

Everton do need help funding their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock and Everton supporters had hoped that Usmanov could aid with that particular venture upon news of him opting to leave Arsenal.

However, Usmanov also explained that his support could come via “moral” means and not just financially – comments that may end up meaning he won’t pump money into the Toffees.

Still, that hasn’t prevented Evertonians from flocking to Twitter with the hope that Usmanov would buy into the Blues at some point.

If he did, it would make Everton one of the wealthiest clubs in the land, with the 64-year-old thought to have a net worth of £11.5bn.

Couple that with Moshiri’s deep pockets and Everton would finally have the financial clout to really make a good fist of breaking into the upper echelons of the Premier League, bring in world class players on a regular basis and win trophies.

The fact that they would also be able to fund their own new stadium would be a massive boost to the club as well.

Liverpool council are thought to be ready to lend Everton £280m to help them fund a new ground on the city’s iconic waterfront, but costs could likely escalate and see them fork out £500m instead.

If Usmanov did rock up, he’d certainly have the financial means to pay for much of the stadium’s build and have Everton fans in dreamland.
