Blues boss refutes suggestions Toffees want to raid free agent market for cheap pick ups
Everton are not in the market to try and sign any free agents to bolster their first-team squad even further.
That is according to Marco Silva, who emphatically told the Liverpool Echo “No” when asked if the Toffees were on the lookout for more new recruits.
Everton had a successful summer transfer window, with seven arrivals heading through the entrance door including Richarlison, Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne.
Those new signings have ensured that competition for places in Silva’s ranks is already fierce, and proves that the Blues don’t need to enlist the help of any other veteran freebies.
Ex-Juventus star Claudio Marchisio and Portuguese defensive midfielder Miguel Veloso have been touted as future arrivals at Goodison Park.
The window for Premier League clubs has closed, but teams are still able to draft in players available on a free transfer outside of those boundaries.
Despite the ability to do so, Everton boss Silva sees no need to strengthen his side with more acquisitions – particularly in the wake of wanting to reduce his squad size down.
The likes of Wayne Rooney, Ramiro Funes Mori and Davy Klaassen have all left the club permanently since Silva was appointed back in June.
And, coupled with the loan departures of Ashley Williams, Muhamed Besic and potentially Yannick Bolasie, the 41-year-old has trimmed his squad down to a respectable size.
The two players linked with moves to Everton are both centre midfielders, but the club are more than stocked in that region of the pitch so any new signings would be unnecessary.
Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Tom Davies, Bernard and Andre Gomes are all available to Silva in the middle of the park.
With options like that sextet, there’s no desperation for free agents to be brought to the club, and Silva will go with what he’s got until January at least.
