Everton linked with move for former City star
Reports today are linking Everton with a move for the former Arsenal and Manchester City player Samir Nasri.
This rumour comes at a time when Everton boss Marco Silva and Football Director Marcel Brands are perhaps beginning to think about possible moves in the next transfer window.
The Daily Mail are claiming the Blues will consider making a move for Nasri who is currently without a club to bolster the Toffees attacking options.
The former French international has played for a number of clubs. As well as Arsenal and Manchester City in England, he’s also spent time in Spain with Sevilla. He left his latest club the Turkish club Antalyaspor last January.
This story comes after recent rumours that Aaron Ramsey might not sign a new contract at Arsenal with Everton one of several clubs linked with a possible move for him.
Any move for Nasri would seem unlikely to me. For a start he hasn’t played for nearly a year, which would seem to make him a long-shot for a start.
But also his age counts against him as well. The Blues under Silva and Brands have been moving for younger players such as Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina while also moving out older players like Ashley Williams.
This is a sound strategy to build for long-term success. The Blues need to concentrate on creating an overwhelmingly youthful team, one that can achieve but also hopefully maintain success.

So the Toffees need to continue to focus on finding and securing those high-quality young talents.
This is especially important in the context of the club’s ongoing new stadium development. As the Blues smart new home begins to take shape the need for a team that can adequately and successfully fill it grows.
Everton don’t want to find themselves in a situation similar to say Sunderland, saddled with a state-of-the-art stadium but with a team floundering in the lower reaches of the game.
