Everton somehow lose derby game
So yet again Everton suffer a derby reverse as they lose to a last-minute goal at Anfield.
It’s difficult to take and to have to write this article after Everton are again on the wrong end of a late, late goal and lose yet another derby game.
I sometimes feel that the Toffees are cursed given the amount of times such things seem to happen to them.
The Blues had done enough to earn what would have been a deserved point in the game and indeed perhaps should have scored at least one goal themselves in the first half.
Both sides had good chances in that half with both keepers in terrific form, but overall Everton had it seemed done what was needed to gain another point for their hard work, just as at Chelsea two weeks ago.
But it wasn’t enough in the end and as the Toffees switched off with seconds left they were undone by a high, hopeful long ball into the box. And as Jordan Pickford bizarrely contrived to bring the ball back into the box Divock Origi stuck the ball into the net.
There might be questions about the amount of extra time the referee added as it was nearly five minutes of overtime not the advertised four when Liverpool scored the goal.
But in truth you have to stay focussed for the entire length of a match and it seemed the Toffees just lost concentration for a moment and paid the price. Pickford’s horrendous error has cost his team a well deserved point.
So I guess this is one of those results, (like so many in times past), that the Blues will have to swallow, put aside and look to move on from.
Trying to find positives after another defeat to the neighbours is really tough. But Everton did show in this game that they are developing as a side and are beginning to show they have the talent and mental strength to take on the best sides in the Premier League.

Everton created some good chances, showed resilience and determination and kept a good shape throughout the game. Although I think the Blues do need to learn to be more clinical in front of goal.
So as Evertonians try to come to terms with this intensely frustrating and demoralising loss there were at least plenty of signs shown again that at last the team is genuinely making upward progress.
Now surely to win one of these matches all the Toffees need is some long overdue luck in these games.
