After a pretty dreadful December Everton continued their dreadful recent form with another home loss to Leicester City today at Goodison Park.
The grand old lady is becoming a really difficult place for Everton to play, this was the fourth consecutive home game that the Blues have failed to win.
Once again just like Saturday at Brighton, Everton basically failed to turn up and meekly lost another very winnable match.
There is very little positive to find in this performance, which leaves the Toffees stuck to the middle of the Premier League table.
Everton had the majority of possession but were unable to do much with it and created very little in attack once more.
Manager Marco Silva reverted to a flat back four but it was another individual defensive error that cost the Blues the match. Michael Keane’s mistake let in Jamie Vardy and he finished clinically for the game’s only goal.
These immensely frustrating errors were something that so often characterised Everton’s defending last season.
So it was that Vardy proved the difference between two ordinary teams who looked like they were going to play out a goalless draw. There’s really very little else to say about this utterly forgettable game.
But where does it leave the Toffees?
After some positive and hopeful signs during the past few months that the Blues were perhaps turning the corner, Everton now appear to be going backwards again.
Five defeats in their last six games is frankly relegation form. While it seems unlikely that the Toffees will face that prospect, they need to get back to winning ways quickly.
There are also now bound to be questions again about whether Silva is the right man for the job. I wasn’t sure about the appointment of the Portuguese as boss but owner Farhad Moshiri was determined to get him and he did.
While it’s still unclear whether he is the right man, there seems little point in making yet another change at this time, at least until the summer at any rate. And there aren’t too many candidates available anyway – although Jose Mourinho is out of a job of course!
It also seems that the club will need to back Silva and especially Marcel Brands again in this transfer window as it’s clear the Blues need more reinforcements up front, in midfield and defensively.

Some Everton fans might think that the hierarchy shouldn’t spend more money yet again, especially if they are going to have to ditch another manager and they have a point.
But while there has been this current slump in form, it’s been obvious for a long while that several of the club’s current players are simply not good enough for a team aspiring to challenge for honours.
While January is a difficult time to secure top quality players I think the Blues have to try to secure some additions although lets not see spending for its own sake. Then at the end of the season let’s see where Everton finish and a decision can and should be made about Silva’s future.
